I haven't been to a show in I don't know how long (I did have to skip a few), and I'm getting antsy. Here's a look at some of the upcoming shows in the Los Angeles area. I won't be able to attend every one of these, but I hope to hit as many as possible...
First up on February 19th is the monstrous Iron Maiden show at the Forum, one of their only U.S. West Coast dates for the "Somewhere Back In Time" retrospective tour. Unfortunately, I cannot attend this one due to a work committment. Needless to say, I'm disappointed since I haven't seen Iron Maiden live since the "Powerslave" Tour on December 21st, 1984. If I can make this one, I'll have to scrounge for a ticket (eBay, probably). Ugh.
Next on the list is the "Lucifer Over America" tour, which hits the HOB WH on February 24th. This looks to be a good show; however, Rotting Christ, while a good band (especially their early stuff and their last two releases), has never been a "top tier" act for me, and I've already recently seen Averse Sefira, Immolation, and Belphegor...
On February 29th is Napalm Death, DevilDriver, and some throwaway acts. This is on a Friday at the HOB WH, so I'll probably go to this one. Personally, it's a total travesty that DevilDriver is headlining over Napalm Death. Give me a break...
Unfortunately, I'll have to miss Nile on March 20th at the Key Club. I'll be on vacation in Hawaii. Oh, well. I'm hoping that Nile will do a second hop through North America...
In April, things start picking up. First up, on April 12th, is Testament, Death Angel, and Laaz Rockit at the Key Club. This falls on a Saturday, so it's on the list. I never have gotten around to seeing Testamant and the last time that I saw Death Angel was during the very first Milwaukee Metalfest in the summer of 1987. I even briefly spoke to Andy Galeon during that show...
Immediately after that, on April 16th at the Grove in Anaheim, is Dimmu Borgir with Behemoth and Keep Of Kalessin
Then, to top off a dizzying week, the L.A. Murderfest occurs at the Knitting Factory on April 18th, 19th (my 40th birthday), and 20th.
Here's the current band line-up, the most promising of which is Vital Remains...
THE RED CHORD
TODAY IS THE DAY
EXTREME NOISE TERROR
TERMINALLY YOUR ABORTED GHOST
Finally, on the horizon, is the Pagan Fest show at the HOB WH on May 8th. I hope to have a special surprise for this one...
So, dear reader, what shows do I hit?
